True Ghost Story: It Came Closer And Closer

April 10, 2008 · by Michelle McKay

Location: London, Ontario, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Jasmyn on April 10, 2008:

“About 2 or 3 days ago my dad asked me to bring something down to the basement, so I did. My cat seemed to be looking at something so I got kinda scared and I ran up stairs. Then I had to go down to the basement again later on, and I looked on the other side of the room and saw this figure that looked to be a flash of light. Then it stopped and stared at me. I got really scared and didn’t know what to do so I just stayed there and watched it. It came closer and closer to me, I screamed and it looked at me and went away. Now I am terrified of my basement and my house. Although the ghost looked friendly, I still don’t trust my house!!! Would you????”

True Ghost Story: Red Flashing Light In My Room

March 11, 2008 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Miranda on March 11, 2008:

“One night after my great-grandmother died on November 13,2006 I saw this red flashing light flash in my room and after a few seconds the flashing said “I Will Always Love You une Amore, da Nonna Lucia.” In Italian that means I will always love you my love from Grandma Lucia. I looked out my window and saw a shooting star, I know it was her but everyone else says I was just dreaming and I know I was awake. Everytime there’s a shooting star I know it’s always her. I just moved into my new home and we have her bed in the spare bedroom and everytime I watch TV I get this really good feeling. I miss her and I am positive that the flashing light really happened.”

Pictou Ghosts: Previous Owners’ Apparitions Haunt Old House

March 6, 2008 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Willow on March 6, 2008:

“When I was in my early teens, we moved into a house that would now be over two hundred years old. We really didn’t experience anything too different at first, except for our dog, a Siberian Husky, who would not go down the right hand side of the upper level of the house. He would stand at the level, look down that direction, and whine when you would try to call him down, but wouldn’t set one paw in that direction. Other funny stuff he would do in the house, like wake up and stare at nothing, etc.

After living in the house for a few years, we started to notice things. One night, my sister was there with her boyfriend at the time, and they were sitting in the front parlour watching T.V. Noticing something out of the corner of their eye, they turned to their left to look into the front hall, which also had a good view of the staircase leading upstairs. Both of them saw an old lady walk past the doorway and proceed up the stairs, while no one else was in the house, much less an old lady. They weren’t really afraid of what they saw, just kind of freaked.

My sister says that she also had another similar experience to this a few weeks after that, and from then on refused to be in the house alone. She wasn’t necessarily scared of the apparition, just that she was seeing the unexplained. We were never really scared, just uncomfortable at times.

One night my mother was in her bedroom sleeping at night when she suddenly awoke. She turned over in her bed to look at the alarm clock on her bedside table. There, only a foot away from her, between a narrow stetch between the bed and closet, was an old lady sitting in a rocking chair. She had snow white hair, an old fashioned full length dress on and was sitting in a rocking chair with her face cupped in her hands. My mother thought that she was dreaming, shook her head, squinched her eyes and looked agian. The old lady was gone. She took note of the time as being a few minutes after 1 am. Like I said, she thought that she dreamt it, so she rolled over and went back to sleep. A little while later she was awakened from her sleep again. Once again she says that she rolled over in her bed, and once again she was confronted with the image of the old lady with her head in her hands. Once again she shook it off, thinking that she must of been seeing things and tried to go back to sleep. She did look at the clock again and noticed that it was exactly an hour after the first time that she was awakened, but tried to shake it off and go back to sleep. An hour later, on the dot, she was once again awakened, and looking at the same spot between the bed and closet, saw the old lady with her head in her hands. This time, she says, she got up and went to the bathroom to make sure that she was awake and actually experiencing it. When she returned to the bedroom, there was no lady, no rocking chair. She then went back to bed, a little disconcerted, and slept the rest of the night.

Still curious about her experience, she went to visit the lady that lived next door to us, an old woman we really adored named Aunty Gladious, who was in her nineties and had moved into the house as a young bride. She told Aunty of her experience and Aunty told her that she had described the wife of the original builder of the house, to a tee. She was an old lady when Aunty moved in beside her, she used to wear long old fashioned dresses with a small flower print on them, and the room in the front which my mother used as a bedroom, had been used as a parlour. Aunty also told her that she would sit in the corner in her rocking chair and would do embroidery and other fine work- exactly where my mother saw her. She also told my mother not to worry, the she was a good soul and meant no harm, she was just looking after the house and the people who lived there. She also said that she didn’t particularily care for the old lady’s husband, that she thought that he was a bully, overbearing to his wife and children, not particularily kind, hard to others. When my stepfather came home a few days later and heard my mother’s story, he was amazed, but not particularily suprised. He said that he had felt strange things in the basement long before that, things that made him feel uncomfortable, and once thought that he saw an older man down there, but when he looked around the basement, there was no one there. My brother Paul, now passed, said that he saw something down there once while he was getting wood for the stove, an old man which he said scared him.

I myself did not have a major ghost event in there, except of course for the general spooked feeling that we all had, and not wanting to be alone. The thing that stikes me now about it all is the acceptance that we all had of these events at the time, that they were experienced by different individuals, and eventually shared the stories with one another, but that they were generally taken in stride, and didn’t really make us scared to live there. It was just kind of accepted. Maybe because they happened over a span of several years on a sporadic basis, and it took a long time for the experiences to be shared, so we got used to the idea of having an event happening before something else occured or was shared. To the point that they would almost be forgotten before something else weird happened. Even the behaviour of the dog was dismissed as being just one of his quirks. I was just actually talking to my sis online as I was writing this and she remembers how the place used to spook her..”

True Ghost Story: It Came Back On By Itself

March 1, 2008 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Orangeville, Ontario, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Shauna on March 1, 2008:

“My family and I moved into the bungalow in Orangeville when I was about 15 years old. After about a year of living there we hadn’t experienced anything “paranormal”…and then we got a dog.

Min was a stray dog from the Caledon Humane Society and one night while I was down in the basement watching TV, my new dog curled up on the couch beside me unexpectedly started growling. As a new dog I figured she was just getting used to me but she jumped off the couch and ran, tail between her legs into my younger sister’s playroom. Still growling like crazy, I got up to go see what she was growling at. When I stepped into the playroom and turned on the light, my chest immediately tightened when I realized Min’s hackles were up from between her eyes to the tip of her tail. She was growling at a corner of the room which seemed to contain nothing to my eyes. It freaked me out so I grabbed her collar and I took her upstairs.

After that it seemed more activity kicked up, my Mom claimed that at night, when my brother wasn’t home she would hear his bedroom door slamming shut and she would go down to see if he was home and the door would be open. One afternoon she was going into the basement to do laundry and out of the corner of her eye, she saw what looked like a man walking towards her. Thinking it was my brother she turned to ask him why he wasn’t at school and no one was there.

I had a similar experience to this and it only seemed to happen in the basement. The dog eventually died down with the growling but every now and then her head would come up from her nap and it looked like she was following something across the room with her eyes.

If there is a ghost in our house it is a benign one as the very last experience I had with it I was watching my soap opera in the afternoon when I was about 18, and all of the sudden the TV just turned off. The channel changer was broken so I had to get up to turn it back on, thinking nothing of it. As I turned back to the couch the TV shut off again. I turned it back on and this time had settled into the couch when it turned off again. In my frustration I said, “Okay, I get it you’re here; now will you turn the TV back on?” And it came back on by itself. I was shocked and a little scared that it had actually worked but I didn’t want to show fear as “the spirit” obviously was playing with me.

That was the last time any of us have really experienced anything. A psychic said it was my guardian angel playing with me. Who knows?”

True Ghost Story: The Ghost Played The Drums

November 24, 2007 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Peterborough, Ontario, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Montana on November 24, 2007:

“When I was at my friend’s place visiting, her and I stayed home while everyone else went out shopping. I always loved going to her house because a lot of freaky things happened that no one can explain. A lot of people would have haunted stories when they left the house. She lives out in the country so it’s very unlikely to have people come around. We were in the living room when we kept hearing her sister’s drums in the basement. We thought it was something that had to sound like the drums because no one was home. We went down to look (really creeped out to remind you) to see what it was. As we reached the last step on the stairs, the drumming stopped. We figured it had to be something else. Every time we went upstairs the sound continued again. And everytime we would go to look, it would stop.

So when we were finally annoyed, we went right downstairs and into her room. My friend had a middle room, then her bedroom. The door to her bedroom is really hard to open so you need a real good push to get it open. When I was in the door-way of the middle room, my friend right next to me was scared to death. The door to her bedroom was opening slowly like if someone was doing it. Then we heard a voice in the room and I regret that I did this, but we ran right upstairs. We were so scared of what had happened we decided that next time we go downstairs we would have her dad with us or a bat. To be honest, this wasn’t the first time freaky things has happened to me inside or outside of that house.”

True Ghost Story: The Man In The Black Cape

October 17, 2007 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Brampton, Ontario, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Sandra on October 17, 2007:

“We moved into our apartment 11 years ago. When our daughter was small, her dolls that sang and played “pat-a-cake”, “ring around the rosey” and some other doll, would ALL start to sing at the same time in the middle of the night. The dolls were kept in our dining room. At first we thought dry air. Or the batteries. These dolls would only “talk/sing” if you held their hands, yet we were all sleeping when they would all three start at the same time. It was around then that I would often see a “man in a black cape” running up or down the hallway or going into the kitchen.

At first I thought that since we had just moved in that I was seeing shadows and had an overactive imagination. I never mentioned the man to anyone…thinking it was nothing. Until one night while watching Hockey Night in Canada on the couch with my husband, I saw the man again…only this time, my husband said, “I just saw a man in a black cape run up the hall.” My jaw dropped, I froze, and I shivered… he saw the same thing that I had been seeing for the past 2 months at the exact same time I saw him again and yet HAD NEVER mentioned to him or anyone. He could not have known what I had witnessed. I have no idea what is going on in the building, but in the past 11 years, have seen the man in the black cape, a white cat, heard noises coming from the litterbox…and there is NO cat in there, our other cats were sleeping.

I myself have been woken up at night, seeing a young girl around the age of 9 or 10 standing in the hallway, always dressed in a nightgown and with blond wavy hair. I have experienced a woman entirely in white in the basement of the building and seen her in our apartment. My husband saw her come from the apartment across the hall and walk into our suite one night when he was coming home from work.

While sitting here at the computer, a cupboard to my left where the kids store toys, opened one afternoon, by itself…both doors at EXACTLY the same time. They had been shut tight all day and then out of the blue, they both opened. Toys have disappeared. Then reappeared only in a different part of the house. A small plastic container we put under the air conditioner on the windowsill to collect condensation literally flew from underneath the air conditioner to half way into the living room by itself. Hand weights have come off the stand (we are talking 5 – 10 pound weights) by themselves, landing upright on their ends.

I have experienced the little girl playing tag with me, tapping me on the shoulder and when she does, I experience a chill that is so cold, it sends shivers like you wouldn’t believe. And the cold is not an all over cold, just that particular spot. She appears from time to time, like she is looking for her mother or a mother to take care of her and somehow has come to me. I am the only one to see her, however we wonder if it is her that takes and hides toys. The lid to a storage container has risen above the actual container itself and then slowly lowered itself back onto the container. I have smelled cigarette smoke in the apartment, but in bedrooms where and when there is nobody else in the apartment except for myself and the cats. And I don’t smoke.

I have heard knocking at the front door, definite knocking that has even made the cats sit up, yet nobody is there. The television has gone on by itself. It has also shut off by itself. Things in the apartment move, then they return to where they had once been. Things like “knicknacks” on the shelves, toys, a lighter. We have smelled perfume or aftershave/cologne in the apartment when nobody is wearing anything and it is a scent neither myself nor my daughter own. While in the bathroom in the middle of the night, the door opened by itself and a small towel that was hanging on the door started to move, like a breeze was blowing it, yet there was nobody or nothing there. That same night, just a minute or 2 before, the phone rang and there was nobody there, only a “beeping” sound, much like if someone was sending you a fax. It was then that I had to go to the washroom after being woken up and the door was only a little closed but fully opened on it’s own, like the phonecall and the door opening were a “sign” that someone was there.”
