Toronto Ghosts: ‘The Shadowy Figure’

Toronto true ghost story

Location: Toronto, OntarioCanada

Ghost report from Gary:

“In 2000 I moved into a house on Berkeley St with 2 roommates. The house was originally built as a stable (early/mid-1800s) and was later expanded with a 2 storey addition.

We all acknowledged the unmistakable feeling of being watched, but often dismissed it as nothing more than our own imaginations. Over time, we would start to notice more audible and visual occurrences.

The lights in the hallway which led from the front door to the original structure were installed by the owner with motion sensors which sometimes would come on in sequence, as if somebody was entering and walking to the ‘barn’ as we called it.

We could not explain how this happened and often dismissed this jokingly as ‘the ghost’ and would sometimes say ‘hello’ when the lights came on.

Several weeks later, we began hearing music from time to time. The tunes were faint and unrecognizable, but clear enough that we could all hum along with the tune.

We could never find the source of the music. We would unplug the stereo in case it may be the source despite the fact that it was turned off.

In fact, the music was loudest at the kitchen side of the ‘barn’ which was furthest from the stereo. We even checked out the side door but heard nothing in the alley which ran alongside the house.

This happened sporadically over a period of several weeks, after which it ceased.

On a few occasions, we would all be upstairs watching TV and hear the clear and unmistakable sound of cutlery clattering as if somebody was rummaging through the cutlery.

Without a word, we would all run down to the ‘barn’ only to find the space quiet, empty and untouched. Yet shortly after returning upstairs, the sound of cutlery clattering would begin again.

On another occasion, I was in the shower in the bathroom next to the original structure when I suddenly heard a loud clatter from within the room.

I stuck my head out of the shower to see that all the toiletries that were on the toilet tank were strewn under the pedestal sink on the opposite side of the room.

At which point my roommates were banging on the bathroom door asking what happened and if I was alright, thinking I had fallen.

Still in the shower, I unlocked the door and showed them the scattered toiletries.

Several other similar occurrences would happen throughout the house from time to time, mostly in and around the ‘barn’. But on occasion, the sound of footsteps could be heard moving around the second floor of the addition. Mostly they were odd, but only on occasion disturbing.

The most unnerving incident happened one evening when we were all sitting in the living room side of the ‘barn’ when the hallway lights came on in sequence.

We all watched the lights come on when we saw the shadowy figure of a tall man walk past the original doorway opening, a mere 20 feet from where we were sitting. The figure never past the new opening which was only a few feet beyond.

When our lease was up at the end of the year, we moved out.

I walked past the house once or twice after that, but was unable to walk down the alley which ran alongside the ‘barn’.”

Etobicoke Ghosts: ‘Something Punched Me’

etobicoke true ghost story

Location: Etobicoke, OntarioCanada

Ghost report from Lorraine:

“Well gawd where do I begin. OK, I convinced my husband to buy a townhouse across the street from my mother so I could keep an eye on her. It was on Resurrection Rd, good name for the street. We bought the house on paper in 1999 when it was being built and moved in during 2001.

Our house was still being built when my mother suddenly passed away. Now I had to live in a house that faced where she died. We were locked into a mortgage and it was out of the question for us to sell, sooo in we go 2001 we took possession.

Let me tell you that house I believe ruined my marriage.

From the very instant I moved in I felt I was never alone and simply chalked it up to “my mother’s watching over me”. Not so.

Now for some reason I was always scared to be alone in the house when my husband went to work. I would often find myself looking up at the staircase that led to the bedrooms on the second and third floor.

The feeling kept growing stronger, so when my husband went to work I’d stay down in the living room and stare constantly at the staircase, terrified to go upstairs until he came home.

Ok sooo one night my husband and I were getting ready for bed in the 3rd-floor master bedroom suite. He laid down and I went into our bathroom to have a relaxing jacuzzi.

After this I put on my pjs and laid down on our bed, husband in tow beside me, when all of a sudden I closed my eyes and felt something punch me in the head about 50 times from side to side.

Literally I was getting boxed up both sides of my head full force. I couldn’t scream, just had to lay there and hope it would stop.

Finally when it stopped I confronted my husband and of course, he was fast asleep and felt nothing.

Now I wasn’t dreaming because I just had a bath and had just laid down. My goodness, my eyes literally just closed and this happened. After that I was even more guarded about upstairs.

Anyhow moving forward, a few weeks later I was in our 3rd-floor bedroom again and no sooner did I jump into bed but felt my two feet being pulled up straight and something spun my whole body around so that my feet were now where my head was supposed to be on the pillow.

My husband who thought I was crazy told me to go back to sleep and that I must have been dreaming.

The final straw was a few months after that my husband was asleep and again we were upstairs in the bedroom and my lord didn’t I see a ghost of an elderly lady peaking out of my bathroom into our bedroom, not one word of a lie.

She was wearing what looked to be a hospital gown, the type that is open at the back. This woman had shoulder length grey salt and pepper hair, stood to be at least 6ft tall and had bare feet.

Omg, she stood halfway out of our master bathroom into our master bedroom.

Needless to say, I moved out of our master bedroom and stayed on the second floor in one of the bedrooms there. Still constantly having to leave my bedroom door open so I could monitor that stupid staircase I was so scared of.

Needless to say, my marriage was in trouble after that.

You know what guys? After that I saw a man sitting on the end of our couch, knees held up in his arms rocking back and forth. Then I heard some deep voice say to me “heey now”.

Also on a separate occasion while loading the dishwasher I heard the same deep voice telling me to “stop it”.

Bottom line our marriage is no longer. I moved out of the house and my husband stayed.

Since I left Resurrection Rd, me and my boyfriend now live in Mimico. And for some reason both my cats stare up at the ceiling crying or their eyes go right wide and they stare at the plain wall for hours following something.

Now I haven’t seen anything, but I did film my cat lying on the couch and I think I captured an orb on camera.

Mind you, I don’t feel threatened like I did when I lived in my matrimonial home on Resurrection Rd. Yet I can’t seem to shake the feeling that something followed me. Maybe it’s my dead mother, who knows.”

Toronto Ghosts: ‘She Was Sitting on the Bed’

Toronto true ghost story

Location: Toronto, OntarioCanada

Ghost report from Nathalie:

“The story starts with our great-grandma coming to live with us. She did not like French people, don’t know why. When my mom, who is French, married my dad she (my great-grandma) was not happy at all.

She made my mom’s life hard. My mom would have to feed her and she would throw food at us and my mom would help her to the washroom and much more because she made us all think she could not walk.

My bedroom was under hers. At night I would hear creaks on the ceiling and I would look up the stairs and see a shadow go by the hall to the bathroom. I would tell my mom and she did not believe me until she also saw her. That was when we realized she could walk on her own after all.

When we were kids she would yell at us all the time for nothing, she even pinched me once on the arm and laughed. We were scared of her, she would yell so loud.

After a year she died of old age and my sister and I moved into her old room. Every night I would see her shadow in the hall and it would stop in front of our bedroom. I would pull the blanket over my head and fall asleep like that. I even once felt my blanket being pulled a little.

Sometimes I slept under my bed because I was so scared. At one point I saw a shadow of feet right in front of my bed. I would pray and cover my head with my blanket. I told my mom and she said it’s not real and to sleep on my bed, so I did.

One night I woke up and at the end of my sister’s bed was my great-grandma sitting and looking down at us, so I got scared and screamed. My mom came in and said ‘you’re just dreaming’ then I never saw her again.

Ten years pass by and we were talking in the living room about a movie we saw about ghosts and I asked my sister if she believed in ghosts. She said yes when she was young she saw great-grandma sitting at the end of her bed. That’s when I knew it was true because she saw the same thing I did and I never told her why I would sleep under my bed, my mom told me not to say anything to her because she was younger and she would get scared.

Maybe my great-grandma came back to scare us or to say sorry, I will never know.”

Toronto Ghosts: Punched By A Ghost

Toronto ghost

Location: Toronto (Etobicoke), Ontario, Canada

Ghost report from Lorraine on January 19, 2016:

“Well gawd, where do I begin. OK, well, in 2000 my town house was built at Dun-Bloor. It was built on the old Michael Power school property on Resurrection Rd (good name for the street). Fun begins, let me tell you that house I believe ruined my marriage.

Right in front of the house is an Ontario low-income project called Mabelle Ave. My mother was relocated there and I convinced my husband to buy one of the town houses across the street so I could keep an eye on her. The house was still being built when something went terribly wrong…. My mother committed suicide in the year 2000, before my house was built.

By the time our house was built my mother was dead and I now had to live in a house that faced where she died. We were locked into a mortgage and it was out of the question for us to sell, so in 2001 we took possession.

Now for some reason I never felt alone and simply chalked it up to “my mother’s watching over me”, not so….

Also, separate occasion, I heard the same deep voice telling me to “stop it”. I was just loading the dish washer and I hate doing dishes any way so of course I don’t have to be told twice to stop it lol.

Bottom line, our marriage is no longer. I moved out of the house and he stayed.
Funny thing also I was reading the story about the Westmall blood and I too lived on the West Mall yet had no experiences there.

Since I left Resurrection Rd, me and my boyfriend now live in Mimico in a 3 story brown stone. And for some reason both my cats stare up at the ceiling crying or their eyes go right wide and they stare at the plain wall for hours following something. I haven’t seen anything but I did film my cat lying on the couch, and I think I captured an orb on camera. I saved it and still have it.

Mind you, I don’t feel threatened like I did when I lived in my matrimonial home on Resurrection Rd. Yet I can’t seem to shake the feeling that something followed me. Maybe it’s my dead mother who killed herself, who knows.”

Scarborough Ghosts: Little Girl Standing There

Scarborough ghosts haunted paranormal Ontario Canada

Location: Scarborough, Ontario, Canada

Ghost report from Matthew on April 21, 2015:

“It was in 2007. It was me, my mom, brother, his girlfriend, my uncle, his girlfriend and my cousin. We all moved into this three-story house, just by Finch & Victoria Park. It was a five bedroom place, with three bathrooms. My uncle, his girlfriend and cousin lived in the basement. My mom, brother, and his girlfriend lived on the main floor, and I had a room on the top floor. There were two rooms, but one room was used as an office for my brother.

I was 16 years old at the time, and I was never really a believer of ghosts, or the paranormal. The events that myself and my mom and brother’s girlfriend experienced changed my beliefs. Let me start by saying, when we were moving in our things, our neighbor came to us, and told us, “you won’t last long in that house”. We thought she was crazy. We didn’t really know what she meant, but we continued to bring things into the house and so on.

I’ll tell you, none of us living there really believed this stuff, especially my brother. He still doesn’t to this day, but that’s because he never witnessed the things me, my mom, and his girlfriend witnessed in that house.

Let’s start with my mom and brother’s girlfriend’s story. They almost always watched movies in her room, at night, and they would always hear running upstairs. My brother would be working in his office, and I’d either be on my computer or playing video games in my room (if I wasn’t out with friends), or I’d be in the basement with my cousin. Now, they heard running UPSTAIRS. They used to hear things like little kids, girls, screaming and yelling. They would hear little girls crying for help, and groaning and moaning, like the kids were being tortured. They were shocked. They would hear it many days of the week while watching movies. That’s one thing, but the next thing, really scared them.

She would be in the bathroom, and my mom would be in the kitchen cooking, and the bathroom and kitchen were pretty much beside each other, and when my brother’s girlfriend was trying to open the door to get out, she couldn’t. She felt trapped in. But she thought my mom was playing a prank on her, but my mom had no idea. She would say “mom, let me out, stop blocking the door”, my mom would yell out from the kitchen, “I’m cooking, my hands are dirty, it’s not me!”. She would then try pushing harder and harder to get out, and my mom saw the struggling, but saw nobody keeping her in. She cleaned up and tried to help open the door for her, but she was also struggling. After a couple minutes, my mom pulled the door open and finally got her out.

They couldn’t believe what just happened, but again, brushed it off, thinking it wasn’t a big deal. Another time, my mom was home alone, cooking. Brother and girlfriend went out. My cousin and I were at school, and uncle and his gf were at work, so my mom was alone. In the kitchen, there’s a door going down to the basement. While my mom was cooking, that door would open randomly, slowly. Funny thing, no outside door was open, no windows were open. She was confused. Remember, nobody was home. It was at noon time, everyone was out. She would close the door, turn on her radio and listen to music, trying to ignore what happened. The door opened again, and she really freaked out. She went to close it, and as she was going back to the sink, the radio station changed. At the moment, she left the cooking, got dressed and left the house, and went to the McDonald’s that was minutes away. She texted me and told me to meet her there after school. When I did, she explained what happened. I thought she was going crazy. I told her, maybe a window was open a bit, or something, and she told me everything was closed. I was in shock, but still couldn’t believe it. I kid you not, after that day, my mom would leave the house with my cousin and I when we were leaving for school, and she would go to the McDonald’s, or Bridlewood Mall, until we got home from school, because she didn’t want to be alone.

Now, here’s my story, here’s what I witnessed. It was December, so I was obviously on my Christmas break from school, and that’s when I witnessed and saw something I would never forget. I woke up at around 11am. Washed up, whatever. Now, to get to my room on the top floor, there is a long stairwell. I was going down the stairs to get a bowl of cereal. I was slowly walking up the stairs because I had cereal and didn’t want to spill. I looked up for a second, and at the end of the stairs, I saw a little girl standing there. She had black hair, a white dress, she was probably 5 years old. I stopped and stood still on the step. I turned back and yelled for my mom to come, and I turned back and the girl was gone. I was scared to death, because that was the first time I witnessed this in my life, let alone in this house. After all the stories and things my mom and brother’s girlfriend witnessed, I finally saw something and I finally believed the things they told me. I couldn’t believe it. Weird thing is, the only people that witnessed things in this house were the three of us.

The house had an attic, which we never opened or went in. In my room, there was an extra square wood block drilled into the wall. Like there was a hole in the wall that was covered up. When we first moved in, we joked with my brother and cousin that there was dead bodies in there. After everything we witnessed, I wouldn’t be shocked if that was the case. Now, remember when I told you the lady that lived beside us told us we wouldn’t last long? Its crazy, because she was right. Shortly after, we moved out. We moved in the beginning of November of 2007, and moved out March of 2008. My mom couldn’t take it anymore. She didn’t want to live in a house where she was terrified to stay alone. To this day, I drive by that place with my friends, and we just park in front and watch the house. We drove by a couple months ago, and nobody was living there.

I truly believe this house is haunted. Something happened in that house or on that property. I never believed ghosts, or the paranormal, but after living there, I truly am a believer now, and I watch ghost shows all the time.”

Toronto Ghosts: Haunted Ship in Toronto

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Type: ship
Built: 1952

The following report was sent into our website by M. Wryter on September 26, 2014:

“In 1986 I was a ship keeper in Toronto living aboard the motor vessel D. C. Everest. She was built in 1952 in Kingston, Ontario and at the time of her launch then she was the most expensive of her type and class built at the Kingston shipyards. She flew her flag initially with Marathon Paper Mills, then was sold to American Can and flew their house flag.

Somewhere along her career, she ended up on the scrap list and ended her days in the turning basin in Toronto tied outboard an old Imperial Oil tanker the London. There they sat for a couple of years until I became her keeper and moved aboard.

There was nothing untoward about the Everest, no startling history for her as she was a workhorse and not subject to glamour or anything spectacular in her duties. So this outlines the vessel and some of her history.

It was a hot August Sat. eve in the city and I had invited a few friends over for some good music and some social drinks, a little friendly get together for some relaxing fun. By 7:30 or so everyone was aboard, deck chairs were laid out on the hatches. Speakers were hooked up and a cooler with 3 bottles of wine was placed on the hatch along with glasses, the tunes cranked up (it was a dock so no one as around). We sat and had a few, told stories and chatted about all sorts of things, just relaxing and having fun, the eve flowing well.

At about 10:45 or so some had to leave so the gathering broke up and we all headed to the gangway to say goodnight and go our separate ways. And it was at the gangway that lead to the inboard vessel, the London that we were gathered when someone said, “Look”, and pointed to the stairs on the starboard side of the ship. We all looked pretty well in unison and we all collectively saw a set of legs walking up the starboard stairs case to the Captain’s cabin. All 9 people saw this and everyone was in a state of shock over it.

Some shook their heads, others just in awe, one turned away and was sick. It was one of those unexpected things that happened and everyone reacted to it differently.

We all gathered our wits about it, some laughed it off as too much wine, but the fact was that we had all seen it collectively. The next day I had a couple of calls and it was discussed and after a few days we all agreed it had been seen by us all. Only one woman said that she would never set foot on the ship ever again, and well that was her final response to that eve.

She was eventually towed to India and broken up for scrap, so whatever ghostly crewman that was perhaps he found himself a new home.”

If you have experienced any activity at this cemetery, or at any other location in Canada, please tell us about it here
