True Ghost Story: The Fingers of the Hand Curled Slightly

February 25, 2007 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Palmyra, Ontario, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Grunnada on Feb 25, 2007:

“When I was about 16 years old, my parents rented a house on #3 highway, outside of Palmyra. There is so much to tell about this place but I will reveal only one at this time. We had experienced a few oddball things since moving in. We took it all in stride as my father always said it was the living that you had to worry about; not the dead.

One night I had to go down to the basement for some reason or another. I went down uneventfully, but when I went to go back up the stairs I had a shock. Laying across the stairs directly in front of me was a severed arm. It looked so real. I stopped and tried to call out but found I could not. I was dumbstruck. The next thing I know the fingers of the hand curled slightly as if beckoning me over. At that point I screamed and ran the hell up the stairs past the hand.

My father demanded to know what happened and I told him. He sat me down and told me that he had a similar experience but he had seen a woman in a colonial style dress with one arm bandaged at the elbow where the arm was cut off. She bore no expression on her face, but had beckoned to him as well but insistently pointed at an area in the basement that was dirt floor. He also lost his nerve and got the heck out of there.

We sat there and realized we had a spirit in our midst and we two were the ones it chose to communicate with. Neither one of us had told anyone else what we had seen and it appeared that no one else was seeing weird things like us. So we said nothing to no one. Like I said that is only one example of the “haunting”. There were so many more over the years, even long after we moved away it still reached out to my Dad and I (to the point of dreams). It even made itself known to some relatives who went back to videotape the old place years later. The house was torn down about three years ago and nothing grows on the spot where it stood.I do not know what it was, but I personally will NEVER set foot on that property ever!”

True Ghost Story: The Chair Moved

February 20, 2007 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Manitouwadge, Ontario, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Jamie on Feb 20, 2007:

“There are two to tell. It was a winter afternoon here and it was snowing. My husband and I were sitting watching t.v. and the doorbell rang. I got up to answer and nobody was there. We just sat back down and stated watching t.v. again and we heard some children playing outside, then the doorbell rang again so we thought that they were just playing with us so I got up to put a stop to it and there was no one there again. I looked down and there was no foot prints leading to the door or anywhere in the drive. My husband got up to look outside and there was to traces of kids even playing out front where we heard them.

The next one was about 6 months later and I was sitting on the couch watching t.v. and my husband was lying in bed reading. My one cat was asleep beside me and my other was in the chair across from me, sleeping also. I was just sitting there and the chair at the dining room table moved out about a foot from the table all by itself. I let out a soft scream ’cause it startled me and my husband asked me what I was doing and I proceeded to tell him about the chair, he asked me where the cats were, and I told him and he got up to inspect our chair. Obviously found nothing, but these incidents keep us on our toes.”

Update from Jamie sent into our website on April 15, 2017:

“It was in the winter of 2010 and my husband and I were renovating our spare room. We emptied the room, everything but the futon as it wouldn’t fit out the door without taking it apart.

We just finished taking out the old drywall off the walls and loading the room with the new sheets. We layed them against the wall opposite the door so we could get in and out the room (obviously). The futon is now placed in the center of the room. We were done for the day (it was around 9:30p.m.) so we left everything where we left it and closed the door to keep the cats out.

Next day we get up to start our day of more renos but couldn’t get into the room because the drywall was now along the wall beside the door up tight to the door preventing us getting in! Please explain that to me?!?!

That following summer, I’m at home alone for the night and I’m watching TV.  The power goes out for about 10 mins. When the power comes back on, I hear my phone and answering machine beep to show power…so I think I should really reset my greeting on the machine. So I get up and record my greeting….the usual garb of we’re not home please leave a message yada yada yada.

Well about a week later my husband and I come home and there was a message on my machine from my Mom asking me to call her back, but she also commented that there was something wrong with my greeting?!?!

So my Husband and I played our greeting back and sure enough something is speaking over me (at the same time as me speaking). It says, “What’s this?” in a deep husky male voice, yet very clear.

These last two stories are our most unsettling ones.”

True Ghost Story: It Came From Inside the Walls

January 25, 2007 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Red Deer, Alberta, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Kiersten on Jan 25, 2007:

“One night, I was woken up by a series of knocking. I went upstairs (I slept downstairs) to see what was going on and to see who was at the door. My two sisters and my mom were up there too. The knocking was still going and I was getting a little freaked out (I was 8) then the knocking stopped, then started again. This time it came from the inside of the walls! We were all terrified.

After the knocking stopped my mom called my brother-in-law to go around the house, just in case it was just a bunch of stupid kids trying to freak us out. He went around and there was no one there, not even a footprint in the fresh snow! After he went home, we all went back to bed. After about an hour the knocking started again,it was so loud it shook walls. I thought it would wake up my little brother, who was at that time 3 years old, but it didn’t. The knocking sounded like someone was trying to get out of the walls. The knocking lasted the rest of the night. It got louder then quieter, then it just stopped like it was tired.

The next morning my sister was taking a shower, (and had glass doors for the shower),as she was showering a hand print just showed up on the inside of the glass door, that means the ghost was in the shower with her. After that day the knocking never came again. We still live in that house to this day. Once in a while weird stuff happens but nothing really bad.”

True Ghost Stories: Apparition

January 22, 2007 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Hearst, Ontario, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Taylor on Jan 22, 2007:

“For as long as I can remember, I have always experienced strange occurrences that surrounded my mother and grandmother’s home. (I now live on my own elsewhere). My very first experience happened when I was about 13 or 14 yrs old. While waking from sleep one night, I turned to look at my bedroom doorway to see an extremely tall guy standing there staring at me. He was thin, with very long black hair that seemed to reach his lower back. His face had a look of sadness, which also was very pale. Now for some reason, I wasn’t scared at this sight, but upon waking, I couldn’t control the tremors my body felt as I realized what I had just seen during the night.

After that incident, I could no longer enter my own bedroom without feeling such negative energy. It felt as though someone was choking me and that I had a ball in my throat from feeling so sad. As soon as I would enter the room, I would immediately start bawling for no apparent reason, and even if I didn’t want to, I still would. I had no control over the tears that rolled down my cheeks. For about a week this went on, until my grandmother called in someone to bless the whole house with more concentration within my room. This stopped the fear of entering my bedroom and the uncontrollable crying, but it had never felt the same afterwards, hence my decision to make a bedroom for myself downstairs in the basement. After moving downstairs, there seemed to be more occurrences but none that had
instilled as much fear as the incident mentioned above.

Another incident involves a week’s full of strange dreams and happenings prior to a family tragedy. It all started with a dream that I had where I was standing on this cliff with my little nephew and his parents. My nephew fell over this cliff and while everyone was screaming and crying they were unable to help, as they seemed to be frozen. I jumped over the edge and was able to grab a hold of my nephew midair. While crashing to the ground, I had broken both of my legs but was still able to keep my little nephew safe. Now this is where it starts to get strange, both my nephew (who happened to be spending the night) and I woke up at the very same moment, screaming and crying. I immediately rushed upstairs to see if he was okay, only to realize that, he too, had awoken from a nightmare. The next morning, I
was about to cook some eggs when I had dropped one to the ground, at the very moment of impact, my little nephew fell from the bed, hitting the floor just as the egg smashed open on the floor.

That night as I was laying in bed, waiting for my fiancé to come and join me, I noticed that the mattress I was laying on started to sink in, as though someone were sitting there right next to me. I immediately and repeatedly screamed and called out for my fiancé who was in the bathroom next to the bedroom (which had the door wide open) but for some reason he did not hear me. It was my brother who came rushing to me after hearing my calls from upstairs. It was after seeing my brother running towards the bedroom that my fiancé realized something was wrong. That night, I felt something was so wrong. I could not go to sleep.

The next morning is when everything seemed to come into place. I had just learned that a couple of relatives from the family had their apartment burned down. Living on the third floor, the father had jumped from the window to save his newborn son’s life, breaking two of his legs in the process. The late visitor that I had sitting on my bed was his father who passed away during the fire.”

True Ghost Story: Great Uncle Haunts the Cottage

December 26, 2006 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Port Perry, Ontario, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Kevin on Dec 26, 2006:

“In January of 1978 I asked my future wife to come to the family cottage for the weekend. The cottage was closed up for the winter so we stayed in the front half of it for warmth. At about 3 am the power went off with a loud crack and I got up to reset the breaker. When I came back to bed my future wife asked who was sitting in the chair by the window. I looked and saw nothing but the empty chair, she was however quite convinced of someone in the chair until I went over and sat in it.

Next morning she describe this person to me in great detail, and when we returned home I showed her a family picture of my family at Christmas with over 20 relatives in the picture, she picked out my great uncle and said that was the man who was in the chair. He had owned the cottage prior to his death 5 years before.”

True Ghost Story: The Ghost of James

December 14, 2006 · by Michelle McKay

Location: Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Kenneth on Dec 14, 2006:

“Well it’s not much of a story as it’s me recounting some eerie things that sparked my interest in ghost research in the first place. We lived in a house that was close to 100 years old, it was a nice early 20th century home with big rooms and a nice hard wood floor. The house itself was built in 1905 and it had a fire sometime in the 30’s or 40’s which took out the back wall of the house as well as a chimney.

That was just to place you at the scene. When I was young there were some very strange things that happened in this house. There were numerous occasions where we would all be sitting downstairs in the living room of the house and we could hear heavy boot steps going from one end of the house to the other. They were definately boot steps. This was not an old house settling. I would know those sounds anywhere. This was distinct foot steps going from one end of the house to the other. They were really frequent at times especially at night. Being the rational person I am I have tried to rule out the possibility of a ghost in my house but it always creeps back.

One night my brother awoke to seeing a Hand crawling up the wall with a reddish tinge. My dad ran in and turned on the lights and no more hand. Now I was not a direct witness to this at all I was not even 2 years old then. I don’t know how to explain this one at all. There are many possibilities.

Last but not least, James saved my life in a way. I was very inebriated after a party at my house and all was done and over. I was alone in my room there was no-one else in the house as they had all left for the night. It was about 3 AM and I was definitely ready to crash. As I did, I had not been asleep for ten minutes when I was jerked awake by a cold force. And I heard MY NAME called three times. As I was really freaked out I was still inebriated and I rolled over. The point is that I was praying to the bucket all night long after that. If I had not have rolled over I would have choked on my own stupidity for sure as I was lying on my back. Strangely enough that is the only thing I can remember from that night.

Any who to conclude with my all too common account I did get some closure and that is also how I put it all together. I came Home from College with my Wife and our son. I had asked my mother if she had heard the “footsteps” lately as a joke. She quickly replied that James was still around in the house and keeping an eye on things. I asked her how she knew his name and she mentioned that in a particular part of the home she would always get images flashing in her head of a WW2 soldier. One time she just got a name, so she looked it up and sure enough the parents of James were the first owners of the house. I asked the living family members about a soldier and they verified that he had been shot in the war. Had he come back home to the place he loved. I will never know but its how I became interested in ghosts and paranormal activities.”

Kenneth sent the following update into our website on Nov 2, 2007:

“Its not much of a story per say more just to follow up on the story I wrote in 2006 about “James”. I found out his actual name is Norman D. Tysick. He was a private in WW2 and died at the age of 26 somewhere in the Italian campaign. Dug up some old census records and voting records. According to his relatives he had fought with his parents before leaving for the War.

Just to correct some of my mistakes. This information is actual government recorded  as there were only 2 casualties with the last name Tysick in WW2 and none in WW1.

For all those people out there. A ghost can be a scary experience, but now that I know who mine was I feel more respect for him than FEAR.”
