Halifax Ghosts: Ouija Board

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Sydney on Feb 27, 2011:

“So my sister and I were visiting my grand-parents house a couple years back. Our grand-father had died about 6 months before this occurred. So we were helping my grandma clean out his stuff from the basement. He was a huge collector, saving things from around the world and had to keep everything. While exploring the packed basement we managed to come across a Ouija Board. Not knowing exactly what it was at the time, we took it upstairs and set it on the kitchen table. My older sister told me that we were supposed to ask it questions. We asked it stupid questions like who are we gonna marry or are we going to have chocolate for dessert. Soon our grandma caught us using this game and told us it was a way to communicate with spirits. She told us to not play with it, but we didn’t listen. After we asked it questions like “are spirits really real?” And stuff like that. Suddenly, the tv started flickering on and off as cupboards banged back and fourth, and lights went out. We could feel a quick breeze from behind us and footsteps but they soon vanished as grandma came up with a box of grandpa’s belongings. The second she step foot on the main level, everything was fine. We still don’t know what happened that day, but it still gives us chills to think about.”

Halifax Ghosts: Victorian Haunted House

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Dawn on August 4, 2009:

“Our family home in Halifax was purchased after the explosion destroyed my grandparents’ first home. The house on Robie Street was an old victorian. We always jokingly said it was haunted. Voices would be heard, belongings disappeared only to reappear months later. As kids our favourite game was to stand at the top of the stairs in the cold spot and see who could stand the creepy feeling longest without running down the stairs. Shortly after my uncle passed away we started to smell pipe tobacco whenever he came up in conversation. As a child I slept in the room my grandmother passed away in, for many years I drove my mother crazy talking to the friend no one else could see, the friend who would stand by my bed and talk to me while I fell asleep. As an adult I was informed by a psychic that the friend was still with me, she described her as standing behind me, and then she described my late grandmother. When we eventually moved from the house my mother laughingly said ‘be careful not to let the ghosts get in the boxes’.. it didn’t work, there are still phantom whiffs of pipe tobacco in the new location. And items go missing, the catch now is if you ask nice they come back, we say its mom reminding us she’s still here. I recently misplaced a pair of silver earrings that my mother had given me. I say misplaced, when in fact they simply vanished from the box they were always in. I went to get them one day and they were gone, the search was on, every drawer emptied, boxes dumped until I finally decided they were gone for good. Months later my sister asked if I had found them and suggested I ask mom for them back. I did one more search and asked if I could have them back, a few days later I opened the box where the earrings had been kept, to find them safely lying on the cotton in the box.”

Halifax Ghosts: Someone Said My Name

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Allison on November 13, 2008:

“Well I was only 4 or 5 and I was with my nanny at her new *not haunted* house. She was going to go upstairs to take a shower so she unplugged everything except the T.V. She asked me if I wanted to go upstairs with her, but I said no so I could be brave and she said ok. As she went to go upstairs she put on the burgaler alarm. She reached the bathroom and she turned on the shower then all of a sudden the alarm went off and the electronics went on. Than my nanny came downstairs and we heard someone say my name-“Allison…..” over and over again so my nanny went to the door and said get out of my house NOW! than she prayed over me.”

Halifax Ghosts: The Windows Keep Turning Black

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Ashley on May 6, 2006:

“There happens to be a house on Oxford Street, I’m pretty sure, that is in fact haunted. Story has it that many years ago a mother lived in this house with her two sons who went off to fight in the war. Every day the mother would look out her window waiting for them to come home, but they never came. The sons actually died in the war, however she refused to believe this and continued to constantly gaze out of the windows of the house.

When the lady died, the windows mysteriously turned black and have been ever since. Even if they are replaced, they will soon after turn black, but no one knows why. It is true this house does exist.

The story I just mentioned is the one I have often heard, but I have once heard someone say a person committed suicide a long time ago in it. Those are the two different stories I have heard. It’s really interesting though. I’d recommend taking a look at it if you’re ever in the city. I wish I knew more information regarding the background of this strange house. Then again, I suppose some things are best undisturbed.”
