Mayan Elder Responds to 2012 Debate

Mayan Elder Responds to 2012 Debate

Over the past few years, I have often been asked about “2012”. So much so, that it has prompted me to write this short post. What is 2012? There are a vast number of books and hypotheses about what will happen in 2012. Many authors have different views as to exactly what will happen, and when. There are basically four schools of thought on the subject:

  1. Those who believe that there will be major physical and environmental changes to Earth
  2. Those who believe that there will be a great shift in human spiritual beliefs and behaviour
  3. Those who believe that nothing at all is going to change
  4. Those who are undecided and are adopting a “wait and see” approach

What do Nibiru and Anunnaki have to do with 2012?
Some fans of the author Zecharia Sitchin say that the “Anunnaki” will return to Earth in 2012, others give other years. Some also say that “Nibiru” will nest near, or collide into, Earth. Zecharia Sitchin, who passed away in October of 2010, is best known for his many books about ancient astronauts. He has sold millions of copies worldwide, which have been translated into more than 25 languages. Back in 1976, in his book titled “The 12th Planet”, he spoke about a human-like extraterrestrial race he called “Anunnaki” from a planet he called Nibiru (a.k.a. “Planet X”). He also wrote that the Anunnaki are the “Nephilim” mentioned in Genesis from the Bible. Zecharia Sitchin’s website indicates that his writings regarding the planet Nibiru (and the Anunnaki) have been used, and misused, in regards to 2012.

What do the Mayans have to do with 2012?
Many 2012 authors have pointed to the Mayan Calendar, and go on to say that the Mayan Calendar ends in 2012. The Mayan Calendar is configured using what is called “cycles”. The area of concern for many 2012 authors is the cycle which the Mayans refer to as the “12 bactun” and “13 ahau”. Some authors say that this cycle will occur in 2012, anywhere from Dec 21-Dec 24. However, many proponents agree that the date is the Winter Solstice of 2012. According to the Old Farmers’ Almanac, the Winter Solstice for 2012 will be on December 21, 2012, at 6:12 A.M. EST.

But does the Mayan Calendar really “end” in 2012?
Does it even end at all? In my opinion, I believe that the best authority on Mayan beliefs, and their calendar, would be to ask the Mayan Elders themselves. So, what do the Mayan Elders have to say? Well, let’s find out.

Mayan elder, Don Alejandro, has been asked this question many times. If you Google his name, you will find he has spoken many times around the world about this subject. In one of his many interviews about the Mayan Calendar, Alejandro indicates that the Mayan Calendar will NOT end in 2012 and likens it to a sort of New Year’s Eve. I have embedded a video of his interview so you can see for yourself what he said:
