Prince Rupert Ghosts: Her Body Headed Downstairs

Ghost report from Holly on June 18, 2016:

“To sum it all up it was a lodge, in particular from what my father had told me it was a loggers (floating) lodge at one point, but was found abandoned and half sunk so my father took that opportunity to restore it to its former glory but he never expected the extra visitors that came with it.

Eventually I got to the point where I no longer wanted to live in this lodge because I couldn’t stand the paranormal activity. So I pleaded and begged my dad if I could move in early with my boyfriend, despite the fact that our relationship was still very new. I was able to sway him to allow me to move in with my boyfriend and his parents just until we got a place of our own.

After I had moved out, my father began renting rooms out to tourists. It was at this point where my father realized that perhaps I wasn’t full of “shit” as he had called me and that maybe I was telling the truth.

The one room that many people had stayed in turned out to be the exact same room as mine that I had spent many years in.

The common complaint among the majority of the tourists was that someone would come into their room in the middle of the night, walk around their bed, and stand at the foot of the bed staring at them. They would hear the footsteps in the hallway slowly working their way up to their room and then they would feel the presence of someone come in. But most were too afraid to look and see who the intruder was, so naturally in the morning the tourists would confront my father in regards to see if he had intruded into their room at night.

At first my father laughed it off and responded that he would have no reason to do such things. But then after countless people complained of the exact same strange coincidence he started becoming a believer.

It wasn’t all cashed up to this one particular incident, this lodge is beyond terrifying. In fact a number of years back, perhaps around 2010, I moved back because my husband and I were going through difficult times and the lodge was a place that was always offered to anyone in the family who needed a place to stay as it did have roughly 15 rooms.

Even after 10 years of time, maybe even more, there was still a high amount of paranormal activity. My husband ended up staying in the lodge with me as well. When I had told him that the lodge was a little haunted and to not be afraid he seemed more of a skeptic, he laughed it off. But after staying in the lodge within 3 months, he had seen and felt enough to become a believer as well.

One instance happened when it was just him and myself alone in the lodge. It was early morning and my husband had decided to wake up and make a big breakfast for the two of us. The kitchen was huge to say the least, there were two entrances one that led from the hallway down to the rooms and had a staircase that would take you to the lower level, and also an entrance from the living room area.

I was in the process of getting dressed when I had heard Dave hollering from the kitchen, but I didn’t hear what he was saying so I just continued getting dressed. I heard him say a few more things but didn’t bother yelling back.

It turns out that while Dave was cooking breakfast he had seen me walk by him to the lower level and he assumed that I was going to have a shower. He asked me as I passed by if I was heading to have a shower and if I wanted him to come because he knew how freaked out and uncomfortable I was when I went to shower. He then asked again and called “Baby?” twice. No response, so he assumed that perhaps I was just ignoring him.

I finished getting dressed and I walked in from the stairway/hall entrance. He immediately asked me, “Did you have a good shower?” My response of course was No. He then proceeded to ask me if I had at least just come from downstairs, “Didn’t you just come from downstairs?” By this time he was really starting to wig me out and I confronted him by saying, “What are you talking about? I was just in the bedroom getting dressed? How could I possibly be in two places at once?” His face went so uncharacteristically pale that I knew something was up.

He explained to me later that he had seen a tall, young lady that looked very similar to me with long dark hair which is why he had assumed that it was just me. The tips of her hair had passed out of the corner of his eyes and the body had headed downstairs.

This was not the only strange incident when we stayed in that lodge. We often heard the phantom steps of someone walking the halls at night. Also our cat, she acted so strange during the night. She ran into one of the furthest rooms down the hall and hid under the bunk bed in a far corner and refused to come out. I literally had to go and fetch her myself, not a pleasant situation. I hated going into the rooms that were the furthest down the hall, they made me so uncomfortable and scared, the hairs on my neck always stood on end.

Not only that, I conducted a few experiments on my own. When my husband happened to be in town, as I did not like to see the end of the hallways and the other rooms, I put up a double mattress that would block the hallway to the other rooms. All throughout the day I was spooked. I heard noises and steps and so many noises I couldn’t find the source of.

I found enough courage in myself to speak directly to the spirits or spirit that was bothering me. At first I asked it to make a small knock on my door to let me know he was there. I did this experiment a few times. Each time I asked the spirit to knock a little louder, and every time there would be a knock.

At this point I thought it was incredible because I had never attempted to contact any of them and I thought that maybe I was losing my mind. So I asked them or it, whatever you want to refer to them as, to make a loud sound something very significant to show with force that they in fact were there.

Within minutes, the mattress that I had strategically placed to block out the hallway and the other rooms was pushed over with such force on my door that I thought that someone was trying to break down the door to my bedroom. I was extremely shaken from this, so I decided to stop and further meddling with this spirit might aggravate it.

Hours crawled by and I felt like I would be alone in the lodge forever. Finally my husband got home after me sending him multiple pleading texts for him to come back to the lodge because I was too afraid to stay by myself. He finally came home and he saw on my face that I was visibly shaken, and I was a blubbering lunatic trying to explain what had happened.

After a couple hours I had calmed down and had told him everything that happened and asked if he believed me despite the fact that he said that he did. I guess the spirit figured that wasn’t enough because the mattress that I had stood up again to block the hallway off was mysteriously pushed over again with enough force that it had my husband jumping off his feet ready to knock whoever out that was on the other side of the bedroom door.

He opened the door and sure enough the mattress was flat down in front of the door.

By now my husband was thoroughly convinced that the lodge was haunted. Even he couldn’t stand being in certain places alone in that lodge, particularly the downstairs bathroom and the cargo bay was hair raising.

On multiple accounts people have said that there was something strange about that lodge. My father himself and his girlfriend had heard eerie, old music coming from downstairs, as if played from an old record player. On closer inspection they couldn’t find a single thing downstairs that played music, let alone would sound like music.

I personally think that there are multiple spirits trapped in the lodge, and unfortunately some of them are just trouble makers but there is a fair share of very dark and unhappy spirits. There are places in this lodge such as the cargo bay or the downstairs bathroom, you can’t stay more than ten minutes in the area because you feel as if something really bad will happen to you and your skin just crawls. You feel as if you’re being watched in the bathroom and you shower so quick that its more or less a drip dry shower because you can’t stand staying any longer than necessary in the bathroom.

I was never able to find any research on this lodge. All I know was that at one point it was meant for loggers. When it was dug up it had extremely expensive logging equipment in the bottom of the lodge, the bilge. Of course all of this equipment was thrown out or had to be salvaged, most of it was water logged and covered in fine silt like mud. Months on end I would help my dad clean out the smudge and gunk to try and get it to float again which eventually it did. His intention was to sell it, but the sheer number of misfortunes and bad luck that surrounded it made me wonder.

In the end he was never able to sell it, nor was he able to make any money from it, as the upkeep of such a large lodge and not enough profit caused him to give up. He gave in throwing his hands up and stopped working on it. And I no longer know who the current owner of that particular lodge is, but the heartache and sheer frustration it caused my father was enough for him to want nothing more to do with it.

He still to this day won’t say for sure that he was certain it was haunted. But he did tell me that there was without a doubt something very unusual about that lodge. My father is a very skeptical man himself, even confronted with unexplained phenomenon he still refuses to believe what his own eyes and heart tell him. And despite the fact that he likes to play it off as if he doesn’t believe in it, he has told me before that he sensed something or someone in that lodge.

At one point in time I believe it was called Tasso Lodge and and that he had found it abandoned up towards Alaska. To this day I still will not go in the lodge even if you paid me to.

Thank you for your time, and your patience. This story that I have relayed to you is accurate 100% and I can almost guarantee that if one was to go in this lodge as of today it would still be haunted. Whether or not you’re brave enough to step onto it is a whole different story to tell. The first steps onto this lodge into the cargo bay will set your hair on ends and make you sweat uncomfortably.”

Banff Ghosts: Juniper Lodge – ‘It Sat on the Bed’

true ghosts stories banff

Location: Banff, Alberta, Canada
Type: hotel

Ghost report by Heather on October 31, 2015:

“This happened in June of 1990. My husband and I had gone camping for our one year anniversary, but we decided to spend the actual anniversary night at the hotel where we’d had our wedding reception, the Timberline Hotel which was just outside of the Banff townsite, and is now known as the Juniper Lodge. We parked our trailer in the lot and came in, kind of late in the evening.

We got to our room only to find that it was roasting hot. We called for assistance and a maintenance worker showed up, but he couldn’t turn off the heater, it just kept blowing hot. We tried to sleep, but after an hour or so realized that even with the window open and the air conditioner going, it was too hot to sleep.

We headed back to check-in and were told that there was another room available, but that this one had a problem with the air conditioning unit – it was stuck on. After the heat of the last room, we were happy with that.

Unfortunately, it was just blowing cold air. It was making an unbearably loud sound that made it impossible to sleep.

We went back to the front desk to ask if it would be ok to set up our trailer in the parking lot (it was a tent trailer), but they decided on chancing us in another room.

The staff discussed the room for a bit before offering it to us, because, as they said, it was only used for storage so it might be a bit dusty, the bed wasn’t made, etc. We said we didn’t care. Someone went in and quickly made the bed and we quickly climbed in and settled down to sleep. That’s when the fun started.

It was absolutely pitch dark in the room. The left side of the bed was pushed up against the wall and I was lying on the outside part of the mattress. I heard footsteps approaching down the hallway and then the sound of someone putting a key in the door.

I sat up to tell whoever it was that the room was occupied. I thought it was a staff member coming to get something out of storage, but although I heard the door open, the room remained pitch dark. It must have been someone going into the room beside us.

I settled back down thinking that I didn’t remember the walls being so paper thin when we were there before, but then we’d never stayed in that wing before.

Then, I heard someone walking around in the room.

I sat up again, thinking maybe the door really had been opened, and the hallway light had been out so I hadn’t realized it in the dark. But then I realized that although it sounded like someone was in the room between me and the window, I didn’t see any silhouette as this person walked around in front of the window.

Once again, I assumed it was someone in the room next to mine, and settled back down.

I closed my eyes again, ready to sleep, when I heard a loud sigh right beside me, not from my husband’s side of the bed, but from right beside me in the room.

I was starting to feel confused, I didn’t believe in ghosts, but clearly this wasn’t a sound coming from another room.

Then “someone” sat down on the bed. I moved as close to my husband as I could and tried to wake him by kicking him, but I was so afraid I was finding it hard to move and was only able to nudge him with my foot, and he just kept sleeping.

Now the “person” beside me sighed again, and laid down on the bed, close to the edge. I slowly reached my hand down beside me and felt the mattress.

Slowly moving my hand along the mattress, I could feel the spot where it started to sink down, as a mattress does along someone laying on it. There was clearly somebody there, and this wasn’t just my imagination.

With my left hand, I started pinching my husband and poking at him. Mostly, I just held my breath and tried to keep still.

Finally, finally, “it” sighed again and sat up.

I slowly turned my head towards the window and realized that, once again, I couldn’t see anyone’s silhouette or outline between me and the window. But there was very clearly someone sitting on the bed right beside me.

Then it stood up and walked towards the door.

Once again I “heard” the sound of footsteps and the door opening, but, once again, no light came into the room from the hallway as the door opened.

Now I sat up, turned on the room light, and woke up my husband. Since he had slept through the whole thing, he wasn’t too keen on checking out right then and there, and insisted on going back to sleep.

I sat up with the light on for the next three hours before I finally woke him again and insisted on leaving.

To make it even weirder, when we checked out (no charge, obviously), the staff repeatedly asked us if anything ‘weird’ had happened. We kept saying ‘no’. There was no way I wanted to stand there talking about it, I just wanted to get away from there.

They offered us a notebook to write about our night in, but I was not interested, and we left as fast as you can when pulling a trailer behind. We kept on driving until we got home to Edmonton around 9 or 10 o’clock where finally got to sleep.

Years later we went back and had lunch at the now renovated Juniper Lodge. At the front desk we stopped and asked if they had a guest room that was just used for storage, and I finally told someone at the hotel about our night. The staff said they had never heard of anything odd happening there and that they definitely did not keep a notebook behind the counter for guests to write in.

I’m still not 100% on board with the existence of ghosts, but unless I was hallucinating that night I guess that’s what I encountered.”

Ghost report by Lori on September 28, 2016:

“I stayed in the Juniper Hotel, the same one in the story above a couple years ago and had a very similar experience. I had NO previous knowledge of this hotel at all.

I still talk about this story to this day and finally thought of looking up online if there were any other documented ghost stories from this hotel. This is clearly an older hotel that has been renovated.

When my boyfriend and I checked in for a 2-night stay, I noticed that the floors in our room were very creaky.

During our first night, I was awoken by the very sound of someone “pacing” in the room at my bedside between the bed and the wall. My back was toward the sound, but the sound and presence of someone, or something, was very distinct.

I then experienced the same feeling as the above writer described…not being able to move or make a sound loud enough to wake my boyfriend. I was facing his back and I just hid my face in his back and must have fallen back to sleep.

Upon waking, I didn’t initially recall this event. During breakfast in the hotel, I suddenly remembered and told my boyfriend. I then decided to share my story with the waitress to find out if there were any other strange events in the hotel.

Unlike the above story, she quickly told me that yes, people regularly have strange experiences in the hotel and shared the fact that the land the hotel was built on was actually sacred Native land and that when it was purchased, the Natives sold the property with the understanding that they could come back and continue to have their ceremonies on the land, which was still happening at that time.

I’m not sure why this wasn’t shared with the above couple.”

Ghost report by Jayne on October 27, 2017:

“About 8 years ago in 2009, my husband and I stayed at the Juniper Hotel in Banff for a weekend getaway. During the night I woke up and saw a Native man standing by my bedside.

He was wearing old-fashioned clothes and a hat. He was just looking at me as though he wanted to ask me something.

I closed my eyes and told myself I was dreaming.

I opened my eyes and he was still there. I was scared but didn’t feel threatened by him. I closed my eyes again and when I opened them he was gone. I was definitely awake and not dreaming.

I told my husband about it when he woke up and we mentioned it to staff in the hotel who told us the hotel was built on land that was a meeting place for the Natives and was sacred ground. They said that there had been other people that had paranormal experiences in the hotel. It was scary but also interesting.

We stayed at the hotel again a couple of years later and had our dog in the room with us and she just kept barking so we had to put her in the car. There were no other incidents that night.

Maybe she felt the presence of a spirit there as she would not settle in the room at all. She has stayed with us in other hotels before with no problem.

I am curious who my ‘visitor’ was and what message he had for me. It was real. I was not really a believer in ghosts until this experience. Now I do believe that there are spirits around us.”

Marlborough Hotel – Haunted Winnipeg Database

Winnipeg Manitoba ghosts haunted paranormal Michelle McKay

Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Type: hotel
Built: 1914

As per the Winnipeg Architecture Foundation this hotel was originally built in 1914 and was later used as a military barracks during the First World War. However, most of what is left of the original structure is gone and has been rebuilt.

The following report was sent into our website by Shanna on January 24, 2015:

“It was a typical day last summer of 2014. I was going to the Marlborough hotel with my partner to get his student cheque, it was in the afternoon around 2p.m.

I had to use the bathroom so I went to the bathrooms by the main entrance. When I walked towards the bathrooms I noticed this woman coming from the stairwell wearing old fashioned clothes like a maid’s, and she was walking fairly fast. I didn’t think much of it and I thought maybe there’s something going on to why she would be wearing those clothes. She turned into the women’s washroom and at this point I was right behind her. I watched her walk into the bathroom stall and close the door half way, than she stood behind the door. I was thinking “that’s weird”.

As I went into the stall next to her, I was watching her heels as I sat down and then I got this real creepy feeling because she was just standing there and everything literally went quiet. I then covered my ears cuz I thought what is this woman doing? Is she gonna kill herself?

I flushed the toilet and I looked down, it wasn’t even three seconds, and she was gone! I got out of the stall and the stall door was in the exact same position as she had it.

I got out of the bathroom and told him about it and he was amazed. I’ve had past experiences before so I’m not scared of what happened, but since then I’m curious of what’s roaming around that hotel.”

Beild House in Collingwood – Haunted Collingwood Database

Location: Collingwood, Ontario, Canada
Type: inn and restaurant, our case# I2312
Built: 1912

Cold Spot Paranormal Research™ was called out to investigate Beild House in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. Beild House was also featured in the “Rescue Mediums” television show due to a referral of this location from Michelle McKay to the producers of the show. We were the very first investigation team to ever conduct a paranormal investigation at this inn. We experienced the following oddities during our investigation:

A “raspy” ghostly voice saying something to the effect of “what are you doing here?” in the main floor washroom. This washroom is also the old doctor’s office area.

The feeling of “dizzy spells” throughout the house by two of our investigators.

REPORTS FROM OWNERS AND EMPLOYEES:

The ghostly appearance of a man wearing a white tie and tails, top hat, and cloak, was seen standing in the archway then backed away into the darkness, and was gone.

One of the employees often hears footsteps moving down the basement stairs when she is baking in the kitchen and nobody else is in the house

Mysterious noises have been heard coming from the main floor, which sound like “people moving around” only to find nobody there

A “presence” can sometimes be felt on the second floor landing

Unknown “voices” coming from the old doctor’s examination room, as if still waiting to be seen by the doctor

Folded laundry has been found “hurled” around the room by some unknown force

E-mail sent to us on July 12, 2008:

“I was upstairs on the second floor folding laundry. I just happened to look up, and I saw a man. He was unusually dressed, a suit, a white tie, and was wearing a top hat. I didn’t think anything of it, I thought the man just liked to dress like that. So being nice, I asked him how he was. He did not answer me, so I returned to my laundry. I heard a footstep so I looked over and this man was still standing there. I blinked and he disappeared.”

SITE HISTORY:

Now a country inn, this grand turn-of-the-century home was built in 1912 for Dr. Joseph Arthur who named it “Beild House”. It was built as a family home complete with doctor’s office. Dr. Arthur also served as Mayor of Collingwood in 1919 and again from 1923 to 1929.

In typical Eden Smith Style, the doctor’s consulting rooms and offices were relegated to the colder, noisier, north end of the building. While the family’s sunny living and dining rooms, trimmed in gumwood and warmed by simple, but elegant, back to back fireplaces, faced south to the garden.

Over the past seventy-eight years, “The Beild” (Scots English for “the shelter”), has been the site of many community gatherings, and, during the Depression, transients who passed through the town could be sure of a hot meal and fresh clothes in Dr. Arthur’s office quarters.

Now a fine country inn, each of the guest rooms features its own unique decor, a gentle blending of antique furnishings with modern amenities. Dr. Arthur’s original office has been refurbished into a comfortable three-room suite. And the food is to die for (no pun intended).

Patricia Hotel in Alberta – Haunted Alberta Database

Location: Patricia, Alberta, Canada
Type: hotel & tavern
Built: 1915

The following report was sent into our website by Geneva on July 15, 2013:

“My mom, auntie and I worked at the Patricia Hotel and there is a ghost we have named George. He will call your name from down the hall, unplug the vacuum cord from the wall, turn on and off the TVs in the rooms as you are cleaning them And one time the sink water came on while I was cleaning the bath tub right next to me. And in one room that was on the south side of the hotel it was always colder than any other rooms on that side. Also at times we would hear cowboy boots walking down the hall, I would look out of the room to see who it was and no one there.

My mom, auntie and I would tell our boss and he would laugh at us. Not once did we ever feel threatened. Also an ex-employee was outside and took a pic of the cold room from outside and there was a grey shadow in the window .

There are a couple of stories as to who the spirit is. One is a guy from the 1900, he was shot in the tavern down stairs at a poker game. He was accused of cheating. The other died in his sleep in the room that is colder on the south side.”

True Ghost Story: She Was Watching Me

Location: Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada

The following report was sent into our website by Christelle on April 4, 2013:

“I was working one night at my job doing housekeeping. One night when the building was closed, I’ve got night shifts, my supervisor told me my co-worker was sick and I had to clean up the woman’s bathrooms. I didn’t think much because I love cleaning the bathrooms, but staying alone in the building I’ve notice an eerie feeling. I would feel heavy, sick and somehow I would always see from the corner of my eye, a man walking by wearing a grey suit. I would always think it was my imagination and that since I haven’t worked night shifts in a long time, that I was possibly hallucinating. That night was different. Cleaning one of the stalls, I walked out of one and turning into the next, bending to clean the next toilet, I could see from the corner of my eye what looks like a woman peeking her head down looking at what I was doing. Her features weren’t as clear, but all I could “see” was that she had long or possible medium length black hair (stall could of possibly covered most of her hair, and she was pale!). When I looked back up she was gone. I shook it off and went through the night like nothing happened.

A few days later, and more unwanted feeling of heaviness later, my co-workers and I were talking and the subject of ghost came up. My co-worker (in which I replaced that night) told me how 3 years ago when the land was being cleared away for the building (in which I work in), the construction workers and contractors found the corpse of a woman. I got scared and asked if they knew who that woman was. Nobody knows to this day who that was.

People say that they see a woman walking from stall to stall, possibly where she was found, and that she travels to the hotel on the 4th floor. I’ll admit I’m now super scare to work where I’m at, but as of now I’ll be a little on my guard when I walk in those bathrooms.”
